The true job of a coach, ‘healer’, teacher or mentor...
…Is not to save you, feel sorry for you, give you advice or answers, or do the work for you.
If you want people to support you, if you seek the guidance of a coach, ‘healer’, teacher or mentor…
Then realize that the only way in which they can support you, is by creating an environment in which you can do the work yourself.
An environment in which your nervous system can relax, in which you feel safe enough to look at your blind-spots through the honest and bold mirror they will hold for you.
An environment in which you get reminded that you are powerful - and not get further affirmed in a story of victimhood.
An environment that keeps holding you accountable throughout the moments you want to give up.
The true job of a coach, ‘healer’, teacher or mentor...
...Is not to be a guru and advice you. Sometimes they can - but a good one will refuse to do so, 95% of the time. A true and good one will help you to reflect and come to your own answers - and ultimately works with you to make himself unnecessary, by teaching you the tools through which you can find your own wisdom and healing, without external help.
The true job of a coach, ‘healer’, teacher or mentor...
Is not to save you... And if they make you feel like they will, if they promise you results, run as fast as you can.
But if someone seems to hold some medicine from their own journey, an energy that attracts you, and if you are hungry and willing to do the courageous deep work yourself and find deep support in that process, then there is nothing that he or she desires to do more, then to walk a part of the path along with you, and give you everything they got.
