If you’ve been near me the last year, or followed me here, you might have understood that I am quite passionate about Black Lotus Yoga.

What is Black Lotus Yoga?

Black Lotus Yoga is a new system of Vinyasa (in simple terms: synchronized movement with breath), that works with many of the same principles of Ashtanga.

Black Lotus provides set sequences to follow, with increasing difficulty, to be practiced 6 days a week, either alone or in a group (Mysore style - everyone doing their own practice in the same space).

After a short invocation that salutes the creative power within, the breath and movement ritual starts.

Why do I love it so much?

There is a brilliance and a magic to the practice of postural Yoga, when it is ritualized, done with devotion, intensity, repeatedly, every day, that is hard to put into words. It can complement and potentially even substitute, formal seated meditation if one learns the sequences by heart and can keep a samadhi on the body while practicing.

For me, the practice enlivens me and makes my creative energy flourish. It is fun. And I love how it feels in my body.

Also, as someone who has struggled with depression a lot, the practice of postures (given they are done with intensity) has been a potent cure for me.

But again, words don’t do justice. Hopping on the practice train is the only way to taste it.

Immense gratitude to the developer of the system and teacher Ty Landrum who has been a profound influence on my spiritual practice the last years, and on me as a teacher.

I look forward to share this Yoga with you whenever I have the chance. A vision for creating a Mysore style practice space in Portugal is alive in my heart.
